For the Yellow Rice:
- 1 cup long-grain white rice (e.g., Jasmine or Basmati)
- 2 cups chicken broth or vegetable broth for a vegan option
- 1 Tbsp butter or olive oil
- ½ tsp ground turmeric (provides the vibrant yellow color)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp salt plus more to taste
For the Hot Honey Sauce:
- 3 Tbsp honey
- 1 Tbsp hot sauce (like Sriracha or Cholula)
- ½ tsp apple cider vinegar
- a pinch of red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
Cook the Yellow Rice:
In a medium saucepan, heat the butter or olive oil over medium heat.
Add the turmeric and garlic powder, and toast for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Stir in the uncooked rice and coat it in the spiced butter for 1-2 minutes.
Pour in the chicken broth and salt. Bring the mixture to a rapid boil.
Cover with a tight-fitting lid, reduce the heat to a low simmer, and let it cook for 15-18 minutes.
Remove from the heat and let it rest (covered) for 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.
Make the Hot Honey:
While the rice is simmering, combine the honey, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes in a small microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave for 15-20 seconds and stir well until fully combined and warm.
Combine and Serve:
Transfer the warm, fluffy yellow rice to a serving platter or individual bowls.
Drizzle the hot honey generously over the rice just before serving, tossing lightly so every bite has a sweet and spicy kick.
