Ingredients

Egg Mixture

  • 3 eggs
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp flour

Vegetables and Meat

  • 4 (or more* -see note) potatoes peeled, halved, and cut into ⅓- inch slices
  • salt
  • Vegetable oil
  • 1 red onion chopped
  • 200 g (½ lb) mushrooms chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper diced
  • 1 stalk celery sliced crosswise
  • 300 g (⅔ lb) ground meat (beef, pork, or turkey)
  • 2 tomatoes diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • Fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 100 g (¼ lb) cheese (Cheddar, or suitable German cheese) shredded

Accompanying Sauce

  • 3-4 Tbsp sour cream
  • 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 small – medium fresh pickling cucumber shredded

Instructions

Egg mixture

  • Beat eggs with salt and pepper.
  • Add flour, and beat in.

Vegetables and Meat

  • Add slices of potatoes to a saucepan, cover with water, add salt, and bring to a boil. Boil until potatoes are done (not too soft).
  • Add oil to a skillet under medium heat. Add chopped red onion, and stir fry until slightly soft.
  • Add mushrooms, bell pepper, and celery, and stir fry until slightly soft
  • Add meat, mix in, and stir fry until no longer raw..
  • Add tomatoes, and mix in. Continue cooking,
  • Add minced garlic, stir in, and continue cooking slowly.

Construct the Casserole

  • When the potatoes are cooked, drain them, and add them to a deep casserole dish. Spread the potatoes over the bottom of the dish, and press them down a little.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the potatoes
  • Add salt and pepper (to taste) to the vegetable and meat mixture. Then add finely chopped parsley, and mix in.
  • Pour the vegetable and meat mixture over the potatoes in the casserole dish. Spread to cover. Cover with shredded cheese.
  • Bake at 180℃/350℉ for 35-40 minutes, until the cheese is lightly brown on top.

Accompanying Sauce

  • To a small bowl, add the sour cream, mayonnaise, minced garlic, and shredded cucumber, and mix thoroughly.

Serve

  • Serve slices of the casserole with a dollop of the sour cream/mayonnaise sauce on the side.
