Feijoada de Choco (Cuttlefish Feijoada)
A very delicious portuguese dish which will fill your heart with joyFeijoada is a stew of beans with beef and pork — or in this case, cuttlefish. The name feijoada is derived from feijão, 'bean' in Portuguese. The dish is cooked both in Portugal and in Brazil. While the Portuguese used the cream-coloured feijão-fradinho (black-eyed bean), in Brazil it's the black beans that get a thumbs-up.
Ingredients
- 1⅔ lb (800g) cuttlefish cut in cubes (can substitute shrimp or squid)
- A few slices Portuguese Chouriço (Chorizo)
- 1 large onion thinly sliced
- 3 cloves of garlic minced
- 1 bayleaf
- 2 carrots cubed
- 1 red pepper cubed
- 1 large large tomato minus seeds and skin
- 4 Tbsps of tomato pulp
- ½ tsp coriander powder
- ½ tsp cumin powder
- ½ tsp chilly powder
- ½ tsp paprika powder
- ½ cup (100ml) white wine
- 1 can white beans
- fresh coriander with additional for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bottomed pot add some olive oil. Once hot, add onion and garlic. Sauté till translucent. Add a bayleaf and finely chopped stems of coriander. Add carrots and some salt. Give it a mix, and add red pepper and sauté a bit.
- Add tomato to the mix. Also add coriander powder, cumin powder, paprika powder, and chili powder. Sauté for a bit. Add the white wine.
- Add sliced Chouriço (Chorizo)
- Add tomato pulp
- Marinate cuttlefish with salt, and add. Close the lid and cook for 30 mins.
- Add the white beans and cook for another 5 mins
- Garnish with coriander
