Instead of putting it all in a bowl, she had one bowl for the lettuce, a platter for the other ingredients (she added grilled, cold asparagus spears, which were a very good addition), and the salad dressings on the table for people to choose their own. The idea was that each person could grab an amount of lettuce for a base for their salad, and then choose what they wanted to add from the platter.
