Add the brown sugar, syrup, vanilla and cook until the sugar is dissolved and fluid. Remove from heat and whisk until there is no visible melted butter and the mixture resembles melted caramel.<\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-4924-step-0-3\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\">Add the oats and mix until well coated.<\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-4924-step-0-4\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\">Spread into the prepared pan and press evenly with the back of a spoon or spatula.<\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-4924-step-0-5\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\">Bake until they start to firm. This will take 20\u201330 minutes, use the shorter cooking time for more chewy flapjacks and longer if you prefer them crisper. Higher heat can end up hard and taffy-like.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>To avoid a greasy flapjack<\/strong>, mix the butter and sugar mixture well until you see no sign of melted butter<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>When baking, watch closely and remove from the oven when the edges are golden.<\/strong>\u00a0 Overcooking may result in a hard, crunchy flapjack.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>For a crisper flapjack,\u00a0<\/strong>use a shallower baking pan and bake at a higher temperature.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>For a more cake-like, fluffy flapjack<\/strong>, skip the stovetop and instead, add all the ingredients to a food processor, blitz it all together, and spread the mixture into the pan. Then bake as directed.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>If you don\u2019t like a crisp edge<\/strong>, try using a damp\u00a0<a class=\"seoquake-nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/34F9n3w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">cake wrap<\/a>\u00a0(paid link).
