Bloomin’ Brie Bread [Video]
The best way to serve a crowd is to make a bloomin' brie bread. Inspired by the bloomin' onion, this bread is perfect for friends to dig into together. Tearing the bread and dipping in the melty cheese makes this the funnest (and tastiest) appetizer ever!
Servings: 1 loaf
Ingredients
- 1 boule
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil
- ½ tsp. garlic powder
- ½ tsp. Italian seasoning
- 1 (12oz) wheel brie top rind removed
- ¾ cup shredded mozzarella
Optional/Variations
- Fresh rosemary instead of, or in addition to, the Italian seasoning.
- Pesto (Basil, Sun-dried Tomato, etc.) for seasoning, instead of, or in addition.
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°. In a small bowl, whisk together oil, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
- Bring the brie wheel up to room temperature, to ensure it melts in the oven.
- Slice off top quarter of bread. Place the wheel of brie on top of the bread and use a paring knife to trace around it. Scoop out inner circle of bread. Brush oil mixture on inside of bread. Carefully, cut down around edges of bread to create slices that people will tear off after baking.
- Sprinkle with about ½ cup mozzarella, Italian seasoning and/or other seasonings, place brie on top, then sprinkle with the rest of the mozzarella, and seasonings.
- Place bread top on top of cheese and bake until cheese is melty and the bread is toasty, about 20-30 minutes. If may be possible that the brie takes longer to melt than this. If you have to leave it in the oven longer, take off the bread from the top, so it doesn't dry out. You might even leave the top off entirely.
- Serve warm.
